Alternative Development

Forester Families Program (FFP)

  • Supports peasant, indigenous and afro- Colombian families directly affected by illicit crops, or threatened by them.
  • Through the Forester Families Program nearly 4 million hectares have been kept free of illicit crops since 2002.
  • We have been able to protect the environment and water sources, to facilitate the conservation of 300 thousand hectares.
  • 107 thousand families have already been helped.
  • Investment of 415 million USD by Colombian government.
Productive Projects
  • Developed to support the design and development of medium and long term agricultural and agro forestry projects.
  • Since 2002, over 600 thousand families have been benefited with this program.
  • 186 projects in execution during 2007-2008.
  • More than 320 thousand hectares of legal crops planted
  • Colombia has invested 64 million USD in this program alone.
  • 612 million USD in international cooperation received.
Mobile Eradication Groups
  • In 2006 mobile eradication groups eradicated 43 thousand hectares, breaking the world record for manual eradication.
  • In 2007, the record was broken again, with 66 thousand hectares eradicated.
  • Last year, 7,000 eradicators cleared 95 thousand hectares of coca in Colombia.
  • Those 95 thousand hectares of coca would have produced over 809 million USD worth of cocaine.
  • 26 manual eradicators have lost their lives due to the landmines that illegal armed groups place to protect their crops.
